Title: "On the structure of behaviors"

Abstract:
We consider the space of n-dimensional sequences with values in a discrete field k. On this space we put the product topology, and there are n commuting shift operators. An n-dimensional behavior is a closed shift invariant linear subspace. In the talk we present an approach to study the structure of n-dimensional behaviors. The main tool is the duality between the category of abstract k-modules and the category of profinite topological k-modules. This is a k-linear version of the Pontryagin duality between discrete abelian groups and profinite abelian groups. Under our duality n-dimensional behaviors correspond to finitely generated modules over the polynomial ring k[t_1,...,t_n].
